Explorers of the tomb!
Wednesday 10th December
Today we became explorers. This morning when we came into school we saw this:
We then had to explore the dig site to see what we could find.
Artefacts found help us to understand the past. These artefacts below were found in Tutankhamens tomb.
This artefact is made mostly out off gold and a little bit off stone. The stone on top off the ring is shaped like a scarab beetle. In the ancient Egyptian time a they believed that scarab beetles were a symbol of life. This might be a ring that Tutankhamen wore. Tutankhamen was a Pharaoh in Egypt. This ring might have been buried with him because it was expensive and it symbolises how important he was. (Maia)
Today we have also been practising our reflective symmetry.

Sunshine, smiles and sketches!
Tuesday 2nd December
We had great fun at track today. We practised our throwing, catching and batting skills. The sun was out and the sky was blue. It was a lovely day to be outdoors.
Some teachers found it colder than others though.
We have also been finalising our design ideas in D.T. The hard part comes next! We need to decide which one we would like to do.

ICT geniuses
Monday 1st December
Only 24 days left until Christmas!
We have now started our D.T. (Design Technology) unit. Our challenge is to create a unique, pneumatic Christmas toy.
Pneumatic? What's that?
Well a pneumatic system is one that uses air to move. We are going to use syringes and tubing (just like the ones below) to create our moving toys.
Today we have been busy sketching our ideas and thinking about how we can make our systems work. It is important that our planning is well thought out as this will make our final design easier to make. Stay tuned to see the final products.
As well as D.T. we have been learning how to upload and share documents on Google drive. Google Drive helps us to work together (or in posh terms - collaboratively). We created an Ancient Egypt picture using Colour Magic and then we uploaded this to Google Drive and shared it with Miss Gorst. Head over to our pages to admire our art work.
Finally, stay tuned for our final character descriptions, which we are currently in the process of writing. We hope they will bring the character alive for you and give you an understanding of what type of person they are.

Leaders of the future!
Tuesday 25th November 2014
Can you believe that Christmas is only a month away? Only two and a half weeks of term left!
In Literacy we are currently looking at character descriptions. We are thinking about how we can describe a characters personality and their appearance in interesting and exciting ways. Our aim is to engage the reader and bring the character alive. At the moment we are working hard to develop our vocabulary to describe a range of characters.
Here is an example of one of the characters we have looked at.
How would you describe this character?
In History, we became Ancient Egyptian leaders and had to decide where in the 'New World' we would build our new city. There were lots of things we had to consider. Once we had decided we had to address our people and persuade them to come with us. We had to think carefully about the surrounding areas and use our knowledge of where people settled to help us build a good persuasive argument. We had lots of fun trying to convince people.
In addition to all of this, we have also be looking Sikhism in Religious Education. Last week we looked at leaders and thought about the qualities of a good leader.
What do you think makes a good leader?
We then learnt all about Guru Nanak. We discussed his teachings and how he was a great leader through role playing different parts of the story we had watched.
Furthermore, we have started track sessions this half term. YAY!!
For the past two sessions the sky has been blue and the sun has been shining. We have enjoyed practising our catching, throwing and fielding skills.
We can not wait to go again.
Keep visiting our pages. We really enjoy reading your comments!

Problem Solvers!
Wednesday 12th November 2014
This week we have been learning all about division.
Did you know division is the inverse of multiplication?
Well it is! You can even use your multiplication facts to help you solve division questions.
How cool is that!
While studying division, we looked at how we could use a number line to help us reach the answer.
Here is an example:
Finally, in Literacy we have been continuing our work on setting descriptions. Today we described a setting orally.

As well as this some of us completed an investigation. It required us to work in a logical way and we needed to look carefully at the question to make sure we answered it correctly.
Here is one of the questions we investigated. Can you solve this problem?

EGYPT DAY!! Here come the mummies!
Thursday 6th November 2014
Today was EGYPT DAY (in case you missed all the mummies and pharaohs walking around). We enjoyed every minute of it. All the costumes were fantastic. It was like we had gone back in time!
We learnt all about hieroglyphics and how to mummify someone. (We even got to mummify a couple of our teachers!)
Mummifying Miss Gorst |
Mummifying Ms Purewal |
On top of this we also had a YUMMY lunch (thank you to all our parents) and we got to take part in a fashion parade.
Finally, we got to showcase our dance routines that we have been working on for weeks!
There were so many pictures taken and we promise to keep you updated with some of them.
Here are just a few from today!
As well as taking part in all the fun activities for Egypt Day we also completed our videos on the Farming Seasons of Ancient Egypt.
Check them out! We would love to know what you think!
Stay tuned for more photos!

Class Assembly Number 1
Friday 17th October 2014
WOW! Today has been an extremely busy day. It is a good job we have a week off to relax.
This morning we performed our class assembly to the whole school. We were all nervous but it went fantastically.
'I am very proud of you 3P' - Miss Gorst
After an amazing assembly we came back to class and finished our shape poems.
They look fantastic. Head over to our pages to see the finished product.

Countdown!
Wednesday 15th October 2014
Today we had lots of fun while we were reviewing counting backwards and forwards in 10s.
Our challenge today required people to count down from a number in the 160s to 0.
Lots of children competed and there were many FANTASTIC times. Children were confidently and correctly counting down in less than 20 seconds. It was so exciting to watch.
However, we did have two champions of the day.
Hao Ping managed to count down in 10s in 9.5 seconds and Vivienne managed it in 10 seconds.
Could you beat these times?
We are already excited about our challenge tomorrow. I wonder if we will be able to count down or up in less than 9.5 seconds?
Today we also started to create our shape poems. We were inspired by poems we had read and we cannot wait to share the finished results with you.
